While Covid restrictions make it difficult for people to travel abroad, many have said that going out in their hometown feels like being on vacation.
Locals would never say no to a fancy cocktail or glass of wine at one of their favorite bars in Hockley, where the streets are populated with pub-goers on a Friday night.
Nottingham’s vibrant nightlife has changed little since the pandemic, and people are delighted with the city center and its impressive selection of bars and restaurants.
With terraces filling the once “haunted” streets of Hockley, many say that when they can go out with a “continental feel” right on their doorstep, they can’t fail to go abroad.
Despite Covid restrictions, people said Nottingham has not lost its diverse food and drink scene served in a lively atmosphere.
A Sherwood couple was spotted at the Sexy Mama Love Spaghetti restaurant celebrating their fifth anniversary over dinner and a glass of red wine.
Pamela Davis, 60, said she was “happy” to live in Nottingham, where going out “feels like a vacation”.
She added, “We come to town often to eat and drink.
“I considered using an e-scooter on the way here – there is so much to do in Nottingham.
“The terraces bring a continental flair to the city.
“Nottingham is a fantastic place to go out.”
Mr Davies added: “Going out in Nottingham feels like being on vacation.
“Especially with the weather we had today, the music and the people walking around the streets – it’s no different from any exotic travel destination.
“We live in Sherwood, just around the corner and on a bad day you can wait ten minutes for a bus – so it’s not that bad.”
One thing that is lacking in Nottingham’s lively nightlife is the clubs, which usually house hundreds of partiers over a weekend.
With the current Covid restrictions, clubs are not allowed to open until Monday, but this does not prevent people from getting the most out of the pubs and bars in the heart of the city.
Cafe supervisor Sam Fryer, at 21 Canal Street, said he was “happy to be back” and had a few drinks “just like normal times.”

He added: “We would go to our favorite independent bars in Nottingham to support local businesses.
“That’s great, especially with the terraces that add color to the city.”
He and his girlfriend Beth Benson, who has just turned 21, partied at the Hockley Arts Club on Friday evening (July 16).
Beth added, “We miss going to clubs and dancing – but Nottingham is still good for an evening.
“The outdoor seating gives it a European feel and the atmosphere is brilliant.
“We love the bars and pubs here – a night out in Nottingham is great, even if it’s just for a cocktail.”
