More than 13,000 people across Nottinghamshire received a contact tracing notification via the NHS Covid-19 mobile app in early July.
Contact tracing alerts are sent through the NHS Covid-19 application to a close contact of a positive case determined using the built-in Bluetooth functionality.
App users can log their test result through the app, and close contacts will then receive a push notification alerting them to self-isolate and for how long.
The app uses an algorithm to determine close contact of a positive case based on Bluetooth signal strength, length of time around the other device, and level of contagion.
Individuals can also be contacted by NHS Test and Trace who usually try to contact close contacts using a cell phone number.
Isolation typically lasts 10 days and the NHS app offers a countdown.
For now, those who have been double-vaccinated are still required to follow the rules of self-isolation, but as of August 16, those who let their second shock take effect for 14 days will no longer need to self-isolate if they come in close contact with someone who has covid.
The latest data shows how the number of pings has increased significantly in the past two months, particularly in Nottingham and areas where case numbers have risen sharply.
