A man’s skull was broken in a terrible street attack in the village

A man’s skull was broken after being attacked with at least one weapon on a village street.

The victim was injured by Reece O’Brien and Deacon Cooper outside a chip shop on High Street, Edwinstowe, after 7:30 p.m. on January 18 this year.

Nottingham Crown Court heard on Thursday December 23 that both men got out of a vehicle and were aggressive and appeared armed.

O’Brien hit him on the right side of his head and Cooper waved a gun.

He was hit by O’Brien twice again, causing him to go down.

The man had two wounds on the right side of his head with a broken bone underneath and needed an operation.

Both men pleaded guilty to injury and property damage, as admitted at an earlier trial.

The damaged criminal occurred on March 6th this year at 7:05 p.m. in the house of the same victim. A group of six men were present and they broke windows.

O’Brien, 27, of Crispin Court, Mansfield, has been described as “easily convicted” by attorney Simon Eckersley and as a man who was employed “throughout his adult life.”

He said this was not O’Brien’s argument and he was asked to assist his co-defendant.

Cooper, 21, of Trinity Road, Mansfield, has never been in trouble in his life, said Barry Grennan, who represented him.

“He accepts punches and kicks and denies attacking anyone with a gun. He split up the fight before it evolved.”

Judge Rosalind Coe QC, who sentenced them both, said: “This clearly has a background”.

She said it was a particularly nasty attack. The victim has recovered and is back at work.

The criminal harm she said was what it appears to be “some kind of revenge attack”.

Both men have been in custody for the past ten months. The judge sentenced them to two years in prison, two years probation, 20 days of rehabilitation, and 100 hours of unpaid work. They were each fined £ 250 for criminal damage.
