Portugal was ranked as the all-round best country for remote working, scoring high scores in all categories including great weather, large number of places to go out, low crime rates and relatively low cost of living. Portugal also offers a nomad digital visa, and many locals have high levels of English language skills which attract expats.
Spain took second place, mainly due to its high number of restaurants and cafes per capita, coupled with fast internet speeds, lots of co-working spaces and remote visas for freelancers.
Romania landed in third place mainly because it offers very attractive prices on long term rental of apartments and local food.
In addition to the Work from Wherever Index, KAYAK offers a new time zone ranking that allows users to quickly and easily find out the time differences for their travel – ideal for those who want to avoid conference calls at 2 a.m. while working abroad.
The time zone-related ranking takes into account key factors and categories from the Work from Wherever Index, but shows them according to the country of origin of the work. The tool also provides information on the latest travel restrictions and local vaccination rates per country.
