The countdown to Valentine’s Day is on and newly formed Icelandic low-cost airline PLAY has shared a collection of top tips for enjoying the spectacular location on a budget-friendly trip.
With flights direct from London Stansted for just £36 each way, passengers can beat the winter blues by booking flights to explore the cultural highlights of Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik.
Hotels
The family-run Center Hotels are located in the city center and offer affordable accommodation options, including Center Plaza, Klöpp and Skjaldbreid. Surrounded by shops, restaurants, bars and cafes, visitors don’t have to sacrifice a great location and can save their travel money by exploring the city on foot.
The average price for a standard double room in all three hotels is £105 per night.

Ride around on e-scooters
The popular rental stations Hopp, known for sustainable means of transport, and Zolo offer inexpensive scooters for rent. With an average speed of up to 6-25 km/h, travelers can fit even more of Iceland’s highlights into their itineraries.
Prices vary by location and length of use, but are around 60p to activate and 20p per minute thereafter.

Cheap and varied food in Reykjavik is more than possible. Whether it’s Devitos for pizza (from £9.50), Noodle Station (from £6) for Asian, Mandi for Middle Eastern or Iceland Street Food for traditional Icelandic cuisine, there’s something for every appetite.
Visitors should try the famous hot dog stand Bæjarins beztu (around £2.55 per hot dog) or Hlemmur Food Hall, Grandi Mathöll and Box, street food halls in the market offering a range of different cuisines for a more relaxed on-the-go option .

Visitors who want to immerse themselves in Icelandic culture, learn about history and visit the city’s most famous sights can take advantage of free walking tours like CityWalk. In downtown Reykjavík, visitors can also find Hallgrímskirkja Church, one of Reykjavík’s landmarks, inspired by Iceland’s basalt lava flows and a gigantic pipe organ inside.
For stunning views of the city, visitors can take the lift to the top of the church tower for around £5 per adult.
Visit Iceland’s natural wonders
Iceland is best known for its natural landscapes and landscapes, many of which are free to visit. Visitors can stretch their legs and climb the 3,000-foot (914 m) Mount Esja, just a 40-minute bus ride from the city. Travelers can pay as little as £6 for a return ticket, or explore the coast, stopping at Nauthólsvík geothermal beach and the Seltjarnarnes peninsula.

Reykjadalur Hot Spring is a thermal river in the middle of the mountains just 40 minutes drive from the city. The warm waters of this hot river are a much more secluded and affordable option than the more commonly known lagoons, which can carry high entry and food prices.
