Notts County lose unbeaten run as Chesterfield snatch dramatic late victory

Chesterfield scored twice in the final five minutes as they secured a 3-1 victory over Notts County at the Technique Stadium.

Eli Sam had put Ian Burchnall’s side in the driving seat before the break when he raced down the left, cut past a challenge and rifled in a terrific finish past Scott Loach.

But Chesterfield hit back strongly after the interval and drew level when Lawrence Maguire headed in at the back post after Notts had failed to clear a corner.

Ruben Rodrigues then wasted a glorious chance when his shot was blocked after a flowing move as Notts pushed hard for a winner.

But Chesterfield also had their moments as Viteslav Jaros was required to tip Saidou Khan’s effort over the bar in what was a tense finale.

And it was Maguire who put Chesterfield in front when he tapped in his second from a set-piece before Akwasi Asante wrapped the game up from the penalty spot in stoppage time after Richard Brindley fouled Liam Mandeville.
