Brilliant Notts County down 10-man Wrexham in game of high drama

Two goals from top scorer Kyle Wootton and a wonderful penalty save from Anthony Patterson ensured Notts County started the New Year with a bang against 10-man Wrexham.

The Magpies fell behind after just five minutes when a rocket flew from Reece Hall-Johnson past Anthony Patterson.

But in a wonderful game, Notts were level just moments later when Harry Lennon was sent off for the visitors for deliberately handling Cairo Mitchell’s shot inside the area.

Kyle Wootton scored from the resulting penalty and the Magpies’ top scorer made it 2-1 before the break when he headed in Kyle Cameron’s cross.

However, Wrexham spurned a glorious opportunity to level in the 57th minute when Frank Vincent was penalized for a foul only for Patterson to produce a brilliant save to deny Paul Mullin.

And that proved decisively as Notts made it 3-1 when Adam Chicksen’s brilliant cross was met by Jayden Richardson whose header was adjudged to have crossed the line.
