Businesses end up in the sand raising £ 100,000 for charity

Six local businesses have completed a mammoth golf challenge and, after raising £ 10,828 for the BigCLittleC charity that supports local NSPCC and cancer research initiatives, have pledged to make it an annual event until £ 100,000 is raised.

The event, which took place on Friday May 28th, was organized by Bev Cook of Simple Marketing Consultancy who, in her 2020 year as Lady Captain at Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club, promised to put companies in the East Midlands in a “3 Peaks” – Golf style challenge. Aptly renamed “The 3 Bunkers Challenge”, the teams gathered at 6:30 am to play on three courses in Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire within ten hours.

Originally scheduled for 2020, the postponed event had to be scaled back due to pandemic restrictions and included 24 golfers from Simple Marketing Consultancy, Mazars management consultancy, Anthony James insurance broker, Ibstock Brick, bespoke joinery specialists Edsons & Company, and wealth management specialists Fiscal Engineers.

Cook, Managing Director of Simple Marketing Consultancy, said, “I was really disappointed when the event had to be canceled last year as we had planned a huge after-party BBQ and auction that would have made a lot more money. Although I had to cut the event down, I’m very happy that we still achieved our fundraising goal, and I’m even more delighted that the team captains enjoyed it so much that we committed to repeating the event, until we raise £ 100,000. “

She added, “I would like to thank every golfer for the effort they have made to raise funds online through our 3 Bunkers Virgingiving page. I would also like to thank Andrew Allsop for suggesting the idea and donating the Morley Hayes tees, and Charnwood Forest Golf Club and Nottinghamshire Golf Club for their generous hospitality. Special thanks to John Mclean Photography for his time on the presentation. “

The BigC LittleC charity was founded by entrepreneurs Andrew Springhall of Breedon Electrical Services and Colin Shaw, former chairman of PKF Cooper Parry, who teamed up in January 2019 to create a new charity called BigC LittleC to help businesses in the East Midlands sponsor organizing events to raise funds to support The Jenny Farr NSPCC Diamond Appeal and Cancer Research.

Shaw “The past year has been tough for charities as their revenues have plummeted. I am very happy that we were able to carry out the 3 Bunkers Challenge, because we all had a lot of fun raising funds for an important cause. I hope that other companies will now be encouraged to take over our charity and run their own events so that we can raise funds so that NSPCC and Cancer Research can support local people with cancer and children at risk of abuse. Simple Marketing Consultancy did a great job organizing the event and maximizing advertising so we still achieved our goal. “

A peculiarity in the scoring, and therefore the event was also called the 3 Bunker Challenge, required that each player recorded how many bunkers his ball landed in. This number was subtracted from the team’s total score to determine the winning team. The challenge was won by Mazars who included Bob Johnson, Andrew Hickson, Rob Cresswell, and Mark Lunn.
