Multi-million pound Kenwick Park Estate sold

The Kenwick Park Hotel in Louth has been sold to the same owners as The Beachcomber in a multi-million pound deal.

The holiday park was renamed Cleethorpes Pearl this week after enjoying one of its busiest seasons in 2021 with a 38 per cent increase in demand in the growing staycation market.

New owners Away Resorts have now purchased the Kenwick Park Estate comprising some 320 acres of land in the Lincolnshire Wolds and 77 lodges and a prestigious 51 bedroom hotel.

It is popular for large events, receptions, proms and weddings. Around 100 employees work at the venue. The extensive area was also used for outdoor events in huge tents. Kenwick once hosted Girls Aloud and Westlife in a concert for a teenager’s birthday party.

About 100 years ago it belonged to the Dixon family of Grimsby, who owned the town’s paper mills.

It was used as a base for military commanders during World War II and was heavily bombed by Luftwaffe bombers.

It was remodeled in the Georgian style in the 1960s and was the home of the Dixon family for around 30 years.

It was bought by a group of local businessmen including Stuart Flynn who turned it into a hotel with leisure facilities and golf course which opened 30 years ago.

A swimming pool and gym have been added to create a members-only leisure club. It was gutted in a major fire over seven years ago and rebuilt in a modern design. The £4.5million ClubSpa complex opened five years ago.

The hotel was a Best Western venue for many years. It was most recently owned by leisure company Coppergreen, which operates 370 lodges across four parks in Yorkshire, Scotland, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, has expanded Away Resorts’ existing portfolio, increasing its presence in the north of England and Scotland and taking the number of visitors the group welcomes to over 750,000 each year.

The acquisition of one of Lincolnshire’s most prestigious hotel and leisure complexes follows a milestone year for Away Resorts, which saw the company welcome guests in record numbers.

It has received investment from CVC Capital Partners Fund VIII. Away Resorts continues to have a healthy pipeline of opportunities to further expand the property while continuing to invest in developing its offering.

“Coppergreen’s prime location and sustainability leadership will continue to enhance our offering as we strive to offer perfect holiday destinations for UK holidaymakers.”

David Copley, CEO of Coppergreen Leisure Resorts commented, “Away Resorts has a reputation for driving innovation across the industry and is the ideal owner for the business. We look forward to seeing what the team will achieve in its next successful chapter.”
