Notts County was eliminated from the FA Trophy after losing to Hornchurch on Saturday.
This is how Magpies author Leigh Curtis rated the players in Ian Burchnall’s first responsible game.
Sam Slocombe: Couldn’t do anything about one of the gates as the first was a terrible distraction and the second Notts was cut open by the visitors. The third was a tap-in. 5
Dion Kelly-Evans: He was in a real fight with Sam Higgins at times, made good progress and produced a cross that led to the second goal. But subsided after the break. 4th
Mark Ellis: Couldn’t blame him for one of the goals, but if Notts wants to play from behind, the center-backs undoubtedly need more movement in front of them. 5

Connell Rawlinson: The center-back has been really solid this season but had a mixed afternoon at the heart of the Four of Magpies when the visitors turned it into a real fight. 4th
Jordan Barnett: He scored the first goal and there was a lot of energy as he had a decent distance but was overwhelmed on a few occasions. 5
Michael Doyle: The best player who managed to pass both short and long distance, but he couldn’t do it all on his own. Fought when Hornchurch made it a dogfight in the middle of the pitch. 4th
Jake Reeves: A lot of industry but not a major impact on the game as Notts found Hornchurch’s physical approach to be difficult to work with at times. Missed his penalty in the shootout, but that can happen to anyone. 4th
Calvin Miller: Nice and bright collecting the ball as the reverse winger. Drifted into some good areas in the first half but very calm in the second half. 4th
Ruben Rodrigues: Scored the second goal showing his instinct to be in the right place at the right time but was substituted off early after the break. 4th

Enzio Boldewijn: Had an excellent first half but didn’t quite materialize for him after the break. Was played on his preferred left side but was replaced. 4th
Kyle Wootton: Had the Hornchurch center-backs beating in the air and scored a deserved goal. Could have had a few more and missed a big chance in the second half. Don’t get any help. 5
replacement
Jim O’Brien (Rodrigues 52): Tried to make an impact when he came on and it was his shot that scored the third goal. 4th
Jimmy Knowles (Boldewijn 67): Gave Wootton a great chance but was sloppy in the final minutes. 4th
Eli Sam (Miller 74): The Belgian striker scored when he came on but produced a few unnecessary fouls. 4th
