Six weeks of construction will begin on Monday in Long Eaton

Tomorrow a project to increase the capacity of the electricity grid in Long Eaton is due to begin.

The development will help meet future electricity needs and enable new customers to be connected to the grid.

It will also fuel net zero ambitions by ensuring that there is enough capacity on the high voltage grid for customers to plug in low carbon technologies like EV charging and solar panels.

The project is being carried out by Western Power Distribution (WPD) – the distribution network operator for the Midlands, South West England and South Wales.

Team Manager Simon Roper said, “We understand that Long Eaton residents have seen a lot of road works over the past few months.

“We start our work now, coinciding with the summer holidays, when the traffic on the roads is less heavy, and we will do our utmost to disturb us as little as possible while we carry out this necessary work.”

The plan is to run a one-mile 11 kV cable between Milner Road and Huss’s Lane across Salisbury Street and Gibb Street.

Completion of the work is expected to take around six weeks.
