The golf club explains why it stays open until 2 a.m. every day

The new bosses of a Bulwell golf club hope to make it more inclusive for the community by asking Nottingham City Council for permission to stay open later.

Bulwell Forest Golf Club on Hucknall Road has applied to Nottingham City Council for a license to sell alcohol between 9am and 2am all week.

They also hope to get a license for regulated entertainment between 11:00 PM and 2:30 AM and late night refreshments from 11:00 PM to 2:00 AM.

Nick Davies and his wife Anna are running the premises after taking over in December last year.

Mr Davies says the club has applied for an extended license so that it can later stay open for events such as weddings without having to “bother” extending hours each time.

The 48-year-old also said he hoped to make the club more inclusive.

“We’re trying to make it more accessible to the public, people think it’s a members club,” he said.

“We want more people who live nearby to come and use the pub. We need people who can make people appreciate it, not just for golfers.

“We’re open to the public, they can come here to drink. We are a relaxed and family-friendly place. We want young people to come and play golf, we want people to use the facilities. “

Local residents generally welcomed their intention to extend opening hours.

“I like to go up there for coffee every now and then,” says 86-year-old Ian Renkin.

“I don’t know if I would go down at night, but I should think it would be a good thing. It’s good to bring more people down. They are friendly people who always say hello. “

Another resident, a 64-year-old retiree who chose to remain anonymous, added, “Anywhere people can make a few pounds I would say is a good thing.

“Local businesses are badly hit by the pandemic, so it would be nice there is a bit of socialization as well. Well then good luck.”

Mr. Davies insists that due to the distance between the club and the nearest houses and a “not so loud” sound system, nighttime noise will not be an issue.

The application is to be examined by the city council.
