Where famous faces go when they’re in Nottingham

Some cities have celebrity hotspots like Manchester’s Bijou Club and Red Door in Liverpool, but when it comes to Nottingham you could come across a famous face everywhere.

You could enjoy a full English in a coffee shop in an industrial area when a world boxing champion walked in or saw a former prime minister sipping a curry in one of Nottingham’s award-winning Indian restaurants.

Or maybe you were taking a stroll through Wollaton Park when you spotted one of the most popular actresses from Nottingham and the UK.

Here’s a look at where celebrities like to eat, drink, and play when in Nottingham:

For first-time visitors to Nottingham, a visit to the pub, known as England’s oldest inn, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, is a must, and Hollywood kings are no different.

A-Lister Emilio Estevez, star of St. Elmo’s Fire and Stakeout, was enjoying time out at the centuries-old pub next to Nottingham Castle when he came to town for WE Day, a celebration that celebrates the charity and community engagement of young people.

“The other night a couple of people were in a pub and sat down with me and said, ‘Oh God, forgive me for going crazy …'” said the star, who had an amazing meal on the trip.

“The steak and ale pie on Trip to Jerusalem – that was amazing.”

Landlord Karl Gibson said, “He was lovely and very sincere.”

The Trip is a celebrity hotspot that has historically welcomed the Killers, Sir Ian McKellen, Tony Hadley, and WWE Superstars.

Footie stars Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister played side by side in Liverpool, worked together at Rangers, and got back together last month when Aston Villa boss Gerrard appointed his old pal Assistant Manager.

We don’t know if they discussed tactics over a fish dinner at Crazy Fish My Love in Nottingham, but they definitely enjoyed their visit in early December.

Restaurant owner Edin Gondzic, who selected the Dover sole for Gerrard, said, “They were absolutely lovely and we were delighted to have them.”

The duo posed for a photo with staff at the restaurant on Carlton Street, Hockley.

Edin added, “You were very friendly with all of the staff and were really happy to take some pictures with the fans outside the restaurant.”

Native talent and line of duty star Vicky McClure is busy directing a new 2022 thriller about the work of the Metropolitan Police’s Bomb Disposal Squad.

But when she’s chilling at home in Nottingham, she likes nothing more than enjoying the scenery of Wollaton Park, which holds a special place in her heart as she and her fiancé Jonny Owen shared a photo to announce their engagement Place for the annual memory walk that she supports.

In October, you may have spotted Vicky with another Nottingham legend, two Michelin-starred Sat Bains selling their Momma Bains curries and samosas from a van in the park.

Vicky is also a fan of the award-winning MemSaab Indian restaurant, which is no stranger to famous faces like Cliff Richard and David ‘The Hoff’ Hasselhoff.

Vicky was joined by her crew after filming a new no-sin psychological thriller in Nottingham.

Earlier this year, former Prime Minister John Major walked through the doors of MemSaab in Maid Marian Way for a curry.

Amita Sawhney, who runs the restaurant, said, “We knew there was a VIP coming and we were delighted when former Prime Minister John Major walked in the door.

“He’s really very talkative and friendly. He knows his Indian cuisine very well and has made a point of complimenting the chefs.”

It’s not every day that a world champion comes through the door, so the staff at the Quayside Cafe in Colwick were delighted when they spotted boxer Leigh Wood.

The world featherweight boxing champion from Gedling visited the café in the industrial park, which opened at the beginning of the year, for a breakfast with eggs Benedict.

“He was happily sitting in one of our cubicles chatting to people,” said manager Rachael Walker. Quayside Cafe also catered for Nick Knowles and Stacey Solomon when they were filming nearby.

Before heading out, he happily posed with Unbearleafable, part of the 2021 Bears of Sheffield Sculpture Trail that was auctioned for charity and is now on display in the cafe at Colwick Quays Business Park.

British rapper Headie One joined the hip duo Young T & Bugsey from Nottingham at his favorite downtown spot, the Saracens Cafe.

Saqib Kataria, the restaurant’s manager, said Headie One loved their cake and added it was a pleasure to welcome the trio that had appeared on stage in Rock City.

And they’re not the only famous faces to visit the Lower Parliament Street restaurant, which specializes in gourmet burgers, mocktails, and shishas.

Comedian Tez Ilyas, “a wonderful character and down to earth guy”, stopped by after his performance at the Glee Club and international cricketers Saqib Mahmood and Luke Wood couldn’t stay away.

Saqib Kataria said, “It was a big surprise that Headie One showed up as he’s a big name in the music industry right now.

“They all came for a real meal and a shisha so it was nice that they were comfortable at Saracens Cafe and it was great to see them feel like they could pretend it was their local.

“Saqib Mahmood and Luke Wood [of Lancashire County Cricket club] actually came three days in a row when they played against Nottinghamshire at the time.

“I think what brought them all here is the relationship we have with local people who knew these people and the fact that we give the locals the confidence that Saracens is the right place to meet your guests whether they are superstars or not. offers great hospitality and service. “

Former international cricketer Chris Broad was never afraid to speak his mind and his career had its controversial moments – he got into trouble when he refused to leave after he was knocked out against Pakistan in 1987 – but he was overwhelmed when he did ate at the Old Volunteer on Caythorpe.

Broad, who was eating out with his wife and a few friends, happily posed for a selfie with Chef Hira Thakur, who recently left Six Restaurant to work.

She may be a lioness in the ring, but WWE Pro Mercedes Varnado, aka Sasha Banks, is a kitty at heart and has fallen madly in love with Nottingham’s Kitty Cafe.

The wrestling star tweeted a photo with one of the cats and said, “I’m having the best day ever.”

She isn’t the only celebrity to visit the Maid Marian Way cafe. Danny John-Jules, who played The Cat in Red Dwarf, took a break from his performance on EMCon to meet the café’s cats.
