When new figures were released, it was revealed that Mansfield has the second highest case rate per 100,000 people in the country.
Only surpassed by Hull, Mansfield is also included in the top ten by neighboring Ashfield, with the leaders of both councils discussing the results.
Mayor Andy Abrahams has urged the city’s young people to “make informed decisions” and consider taking their vaccine.

Mayor Andy Abrahams has urged caution
He said, “Coronavirus can affect anyone – we all need to be aware of the risks, use common sense and follow national guidelines to protect ourselves, our family, friends and work colleagues.
“This includes washing your hands regularly or using hand sanitizer and wearing face coverings in crowded places.
“We urge you to do rapid tests regularly if you are not experiencing symptoms as you can spread Covid without your knowledge and if you have symptoms, isolate yourself and book a PCR test as soon as possible.
“Local rates are high among 18-22 year olds and we strongly encourage people in this age group to make informed decisions and act cautiously to reduce transmission.
The Ashfield Council chairman also commented on the numbers
“We recommend adults of all ages and young people aged 16 or 17 who have not yet been vaccinated to vaccinate as soon as possible, as this offers the best possible protection.”
Ashfield District Council Chairman, Alderman Jason Zadrozny, also commented on the numbers.
He said, “If government restrictions are lifted, it would be easy to believe that we no longer need to be careful.
“Those numbers tell a different story, however, as the numbers skyrocket in places with below average vaccination rates like Ashfield and Mansfield.
“However, the coronavirus does not recognize city limits and it is clear that there is a big problem in North Nottinghamshire.
“So Ashfield should work with Mansfield to deal effectively with the rising numbers.
“The vaccine bus recently visited Hucknall town center and we are pushing for other areas of Ashfield to visit.”
